Family Dystopia

The Film

Family Dystopia is a dystopian short film written and directed by Samuel Laprand. Set in a near-future society where freedom of speech has been outlawed, the story follows a young woman confronting the system that shaped her life.

Blending political tension with an intimate family drama, the film explores themes of control, rebellion, and the cost of freedom through a stark and atmospheric visual world.

Logline

“Maria, a fearless and determined young woman of 24, resists her parents’ efforts to conform her to the rules of a society where freedom of speech is forbidden. Despite having been prepared from birth for an inevitable 25th birthday ceremony, the young rebel embarks on a perilous mission to save herself and her little sister from this oppressive society.”

Production

Family Dystopia was created during a Kino Kabaret organised by ARKAOS in Switzerland, a format where filmmakers shoot a short film within a 72-hour production challenge.

Samuel Laprand wrote, directed, and led the project from concept to camera inside the 72-hour window. Working under that kind of pressure forces every creative decision to land fast: script, casting, locations, and lighting all collapse into the same compressed timeline. The film stands as a showcase of what Samuel can build solo when the brief is “make something, now.”

Family Dystopia is currently submitted to international festival circuits via FilmFreeway.
